Contracted to re-engineer LAN/WAN infrastructure including reconfiguration
of Synoptics/Allied Telesis hubs, the MorningStar/Ascend Internet firewall
and all Cisco routers and Catalyst switches. Re-cabled all major components
to Category 5 specification. Enabled SNMP management on all major components,
installed Optivity v7.1 on a Sun workstation, HP OpenView under Windows
NT v4.0 and AG Group’s EtherPeek protocol analyzer to provide network monitoring.
Redesigned LAN topology based on those finding.

as an Internet Service Provider. Set up email services, Web, FTP, DNS,
Telnet and dial in services. Converted network file services to Novell’s
Intranetware v4.11 from Microsoft NT v4.0. Migrated MS Exchange server
to internet SMTP and POP3 services. Implemented primary Domain Name Services
(DNS) and designed network monitoring via SNMP.

On site technical consultant for Amoco Production
Company. Providing LAN support functions in the areas of Novell v4.1
server and Directory Services support, network and protocol analysis, technical
consulting on Cisco routing issues, SNMP and communication issues as well
as various other network components.
Projects included ongoing support of Intel’s LANDesk product, setting up Amoco’s Windows NT v4.0 domain, configuring automatic network event paging, software metering and writing PERL applications for network support.
Projects included initial set-up and configuration of their Wellfleet BCN router, network segmentation of their Synoptic token ring hubs, redesign of network routing integrating Novell’s Link Support Protocol into their environment, consolidating the server farm and upgrading to Netware v4.1 Directory Services. Played key role in moving Boston Chicken’s data center from Naperville, Illinois to Golden, Colorado.
Designed many network enhancements such as server mirroring, fiber backbone topology, disaster recovery and dial-in/dial-out access to the LAN. Acted as lead role for all End User Support technicians at MIS, interviewing potential new hires and contractors, providing technical training and teaching classes in trouble-shooting methodology.
Wrote many LAN based utility and installation routines in Visual BASIC. Adept with network protocol analyzers, cable testers and many network management packages. Additionally responsible for senior management of all Novell and OS/2 file servers located the Englewood Data Center. Planned and implemented upgrade of 300 users to Microsoft Windows v3.1 in a network-only configuration.
